The Use of Zotero in Social Science Research

Citing and citing sources in academic/scientific studies is a require-ment of publication ethics and is important. In this way, it is possible to reach the source of information. Many problems arose when attribu-tion and citation were given manually years ago. These problems have been solved with the programs that emerged as a result of the deve-lopment of technology/software, and citation and citation have be-come automatic. Among them, Zotero is one of the software that is widely used around the world and has an important place in this field, and it is a useful individual resource management tool. With this prog-ram, 35 different source information used in the study such as books, articles, and encyclopedia articles can be saved either manually or au-tomatically from the internet. These tags, which are recorded only once, are used continuously. In addition, the files of the sources used can be archived in pdf format. Zotero supports over 10,000 different citation styles, which provides great convenience to the researcher. Another aspect of Zotero is that it allows the researcher to follow the sources he uses in each of his studies by classifying his studies. With Zotero, it is possible to add easy, regular, and accurate footnotes and bibliography while writing works such as theses, articles, and books in Word. When the researcher sends an article to a different journal, he has to change the citation style, and doing this manually takes a signi-ficant amount of time. With this software, it is automatically done in a very short time to translate the footnotes and sources of the study in-to any citation style. Thus, researchers have the opportunity to devo-te the time they spend to creating footnotes and bibliography to the quality of the research. In this paper, the use and important steps of Zotero, which ensures that footnotes and bibliography, which are very important in social science research, are given without errors and in a short time, will be emphasized, and different uses specific to the field of Theology will be pointed out.
Akademik/bilimsel çalışmalarda atıf verme ve kaynak belirtme yayın etiğinin bir gereği olup önem arz etmektedir. Bu şekilde bilginin kay-nağına ulaşmak mümkün olmaktadır. Atıf ve kaynak belirtme yıllar ön-ce manuel olarak verilirken birçok problem meydana gelmekteydi. Teknolojinin/yazılımın gelişmesi sonucu çıkan programlarla bu prob-lemler çözülmüş, atıf ve kaynak belirtme otomatik bir hale dönüşmüş-tür. Bunlar arasında dünya genelinde yaygın olarak kullanılan ve bu alanda önemli bir yer tutan yazılımlardan biri Zotero olup, kullanışlı bir bireysel kaynak yönetimi aracıdır. Bu program ile gerek manuel olarak gerekse internetten otomatik olarak kitap, makale ve ansiklopedi maddesi gibi çalışmada yararlanılan 35 farklı kaynak bilgileri kaydedi-lebilmektedir. Bir defaya mahsus kaydedilen bu künyeler devamlı ola-rak kullanılmaktadır. Ayrıca kullanılan kaynakların pdf formatında dos-yaları da arşivlenebilmektedir. Zotero 10.000’in üzerinde farklı atıf sti-lini desteklemekte bu durum araştırmacıya büyük kolaylık sağlamakta-dır. Zotero’nun bir diğer yönü, araştırmacıya çalışmalarını tasnif ede-rek her bir çalışmasında kullandığı kaynakları takip etme imkânı da sunmasıdır. Zotero ile Word’de tez, makale ve kitap gibi çalışmaları ka-leme alırken kolay, düzenli ve yanlışsız dipnotlar ve kaynakça eklemek mümkündür. Araştırmacı bir dergiye gönderdiği makaleyi farklı bir dergiye gönderdiğinde atıf stili olarak değişiklik yapmak durumunda kalmakta, bunu manuel olarak yapmak önemli ölçüde zaman almakta-dır. Bu yazılım ile çalışmanın dipnot ve kaynaklarını herhangi bir atıf stiline çevirmek otomatik olarak çok kısa bir sürede yapılmaktadır. Böylece araştırmacılar dipnot ve kaynakça oluşturmaya harcadıkları zamanı araştırmanın niteliğine ayırmaya imkân bulabilmektedirler. Bu tebliğde sosyal bilim araştırmalarında çok önemli olan dipnot ve kay-nakçanın hatasız ve kısa sürede verilmesini sağlayan Zotero’nun kulla-nımı ve önemli adımları üzerinde durulacak, İlahiyat alanına özgü farklı kullanımlara işaret edilecektir.
